About the boats

The article in Maritime Reporter highlights the construction of Manhattan III, a new wooden passenger vessel. (We are so excited to see this new vessel down in Manhattan ^_^) This project reflects Scarano’s commitment to quality and innovation. Â鶹ÉäÇø is honored to be featured in Foghorn Magazine! Â鶹ÉäÇø recently celebrated an exciting milestone during Climate Week NYC. The event, held in late September, marked the christening of their latest vessel, . The 90-foot, all-wooden schooner was introduced during a special ceremony. This christening was made even more memorable by honoring the 2024 Ocean Champion awardee in collaboration with the . The Adirondack IV’s completion also celebrates Â鶹ÉäÇø’s longstanding 30-year commitment to providing unparalleled sailing experiences from New York’s Chelsea Piers.

BOAT

The new Schooner Adirondack IV is designed with both tradition and functionality in mind. Certified to carry 70 passengers, this vessel stands as a testament to Â鶹ÉäÇø’s dedication to quality and craft in marine tourism. The schooner was meticulously built by , a PVA associate member based in Albany, New York. Furthermore, Scarano Boat Building’s work on this vessel maintains their reputation for high standards in shipbuilding, and their ability to pair modern certification needs with classic, handcrafted design.

EVENT

The event offered attendees a unique behind-the-scenes experience with the Adirondack IV’s builders and crew. Guests connected with the ship’s makers and additionally gained insights into the craftsmanship that went into creating the Adirondack IV. Following the ceremony, guests were invited to embark on a celebratory cruise through New York Harbor. The attendee’s voyage allowed them to see the schooner in action and experience Â鶹ÉäÇø’s commitment to providing world-class sailing adventures.

One of the most captivating ways to witness the vibrant fall foliage is by embarking on a leisurely cruise along the Hudson River. Choose from a variety of vessels, such as a classic schooner, a 1920s-style yacht, or a traditional ferry. Each cruise departs from multiple piers in Manhattan and even Port Washington. Enjoy breathtaking sights, including the stunning New Jersey Palisades and Bear Mountain.

Set sail aboard the 80-foot schooner Adirondack and journey under the George Washington Bridge, up to the Palisades, and back. Captain Diana Christopher, one of our Captains aboard Schooner Adirondack, embraces the serenity of sailing with the wind. Taking things at a pace of a sailboat is in stark contrast of the way New Yorkers approach our days” she says, this “provides a sense of relaxation and calm”.

The 3.5-hour Grand Palisades Fall Foliage Cruise departs from Pier 62 at Chelsea Piers (W. 22nd St.) on Fridays at 1:30 PM, Saturdays at 9:45 AM, and Sundays at 12:45 PM from October 11 to November 3. Tickets start at $108 and include one complimentary beer, wine, or soft drink, with additional beverages available for purchase. Since food is not provided, guests are encouraged to bring their own snacks or picnic. Additionally, be sure to dress warmly, as this is an outdoor adventure. Â鶹ÉäÇø Pride sails are back, and they’re better than ever! Picture this: a two-hour cruise on a majestic classic Schooner, where you’ll soak in jaw-dropping views of the city’s landmarks.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 29, and Sunday, June 30. We’re setting sail from Pier 62 at Chelsea Piers. As we glide past One World Trade Center, Ellis Island, and the iconic Statue of Liberty, a vibrant 400-square-foot Pride flag will be fluttering above us, celebrating love and pride.

Saturday tickets are priced at $125/adult, and Sunday tickets for $150/adult. Our Sunday sail will have the best seat in the house for the Pride fireworks show. Each ticket comes with your choice of drink—beer, wine, champagne, or soda—and you’re welcome to pack a picnic for the ride.

We at Â鶹ÉäÇø are thrilled to see our Managing Director, Sarah Pennington, celebrated in Westchester Women Magazine! Sarah’s journey is a testament to her dedication to the waters of New York City and her unwavering passion for sailing.

Sarah’s maritime adventure began in her 20s when she chose sailing over grad school after teaching at an all-girls camp.

Once she had made this decision, it led her to a job in Maine. There she developed a love for schooners and tall ships, ultimately inspiring her move to New York City. In 2002, Sarah joined Â鶹ÉäÇø as a crew member, quickly rising to Manager by the end of her first season. She easily was able to obtain her Captain’s license and begin driving in New York Harbor. Undeniably, Sarah has since transformed our operation. Under Sarah’s care Â鶹ÉäÇø changed from a single sailboat to a fleet of 13, including both sail and motor yachts. Locations for Â鶹ÉäÇø are also in Boston, Newport, and Key West.

One of Sarah’s favorite times to sail is in June, particularly during the Sail GP event on June 22-23. This exciting spectacle, similar to the America’s Cup, can be enjoyed from our Statue of Liberty cruises. Sarah’s enthusiasm for these events is contagious, and she reminds everyone to bring sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and an extra layer, as it’s always brighter and cooler on the water.

Our own Captain Cait Field was interviewed about her story of going from part time to management at Â鶹ÉäÇø.

Captain Cait Field, our general manager at Â鶹ÉäÇø grew up sailing small boats in Long Island. Field transitioned to working full-time for the company two years ago after an extensive background in both sailing and science. The Brooklyn resident initially joined Â鶹ÉäÇø while pursuing her Ph.D. in biopsychology. All while working as the Freshkills Park manager at the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation.

Despite her extensive career in the sciences, her passion for the maritime world led her to embrace a full-time role with Â鶹ÉäÇø. Additionally, as a captain, Field often officiates weddings, having taken up the role after numerous requests. She emphasizes the importance of staying open to evolving career paths and the joy she finds in being on boats. From part time to management at Â鶹ÉäÇø is no small feat and we are all so happy that Capt Cait is part of our team!
